Subsidies and other rants
So, we have farmers complaining that closing two sugar plants is “a bolt from the blue”. Well I hate to disagree but it sounds like it is well overdue.
The headline figures are that the EU subsidises sugar to the tune of £1 billion a year – guaranteeing a price that is three times the world price. What absolute madness. Why on Earth do we continually see these ludicrous subsidies going on year upon year. If goverments were business most would be bankcrupt a long time ago.
Whilst I’m on a political entry, what about Iraq – $6 billion a _month_ the US spends. If they spent that on helping countries there would be a damn sight less terrorism. But then that doesn’t make the politicians palls any money does it?
Give it another few years and then we’ll find out quite how bad the latest government IT projects have gone. I’d only be seriously annoyed if they awarded them to the same companies that ballsed up the last ones. Oh hang on …
