DIY weekend - and end of the diet

Had a lovely time at Andy and Vicky’s up in Oxford this weekend helping out with some of the DIY jobs to do before they add a new member to their family. I’ve uploaded a few photos to my album - including some of the fabulous nursery. Fun jobs included:

  • running phone cables and some CAT-6 (computer network cable) through the house
  • replacing some rotten decking support
  • adding a security sensor
  • misc other items

It was also the end of my self-imposed caffeine diet (this time going caffeine free rather than just drinking lots of tea!). This was due to Andy possessing a proper espresso machine. It did make very nice coffee so I’m now really tempted to buy one.

I’ve been highly recommended Rancilio Silvia and Rocky grinder but the Silvia can apparently be quite difficult to master and at £300 new (and with none on ebay) pricey too. The grinder is another £180, though that bundle does both for £450.

I will probably end up duplicating Andy’s purchases - Gaggia Classic (£215+ new) and a Dualit burr grinder (£55) which is substantially cheaper. There are also quite a few for sale on ebay which look like they sell for about £150+20 shipping. So let’s call it £230 in total which is basically half the price of the other bundle.

don’t do it the Silvia is well worth that extra push. I tell you we used to sell the Gagias but we don’t anymore as its a false economy.

Great Blog by the way
