IPv6
More geeky stuff, I’m now starting to play with IPv6 (next generation addressing scheme for the Internet) courtesy of SixXS. Nothing is really “live” yet as I need to keep the initial IPv4-IPv6 tunnel up for a week before I have enough credit to request a subnet.
Credit? Yes, SixXS have a really neat way of handling requests. They do this stuff free of charge and voluntarily (many thanks!) with great documentation. However to prevent themselves from being overwhelmed, not only have they highly automated it, but they have an idea of a “credit” or ISK. You use up credits when you request a tunnel, get a tunnel authorised etc. You gain credits by, for example, running a tunnel successfully. You also start out with some credits.
What this means in reality is that you can’t submit lots and lots of requests and have to proceed so far before going to the next step. There is a great example on the SixXS credit page with more explanation.
