Dusting

In a follow up from yesterdays entry, I opened up my graphics card (Nvidia 8800GTS) and got rid of the dust. As you can see – there was quite a coating! Shame Nvidia made it so hard to clean (there’s normally a cover over this lot so you can’t see it, or clean it), I guess it was done in the interest of efficiency when new.

The temperature has now dropped from 88°C to 68°C – a _huge_ drop.

Whilst getting it out I slightly nudged a SATA power connector next to it, snap. I really hate the SATA power adapters – the plastic is so horrifically thin. Number of bits of hardware I’ve broken: 4. Number I’ve broken since age 15: 3. Number of SATA power connectors I’ve broken: 3. Fortunately this was a molex->SATA connector so at least it wasn’t too bad. I have broken one of the SATA connectors off the PSU though.
