pot, kettle
pot - “The PM said “unnecessary” purchases were contributing to price rises”.
kettle - “The UK is to slow its adoption of biofuels amid fears they raise food prices and harm the environment”.
As has been known for quite some time that biofuels in their present form are bad:
heavily subsidised (otherwise they would be incredibly [...]

Lock ‘em up and throw away the key
So another driver is jailed for driving whilst banned. It’s the 51st time he’s been arrested for driving whilst banned. Less than two years ago he was jailed again for driving whilst banned. 200 offences, drove over a cyclist whilst driving a getaway car.
So how long until this sorry tale is repeated [...]

Just ask the question
Unfortunately, one problem I have to deal with is people communicating with me via Skype.
These people often have not learnt that Skype is a _dreadful_ way to communicate:
very poor logging
no searching
no way to mark messages as important or flag them todo (unlike email)
extremely unpleasant to the network
very disruptive to the [...]

24:00 pm
I’ve about finished watching 24 season one (it’s not really my cup of tea - bit mainstream, but it is well done), however one thing that really bugs me is their clock - it’s nearly 11 o’clock at night in the bit I’m up to and yet the clock says 10:59:59. Earlier it was [...]

iRiver S10 sorting
Or rather lack of. My shiny new toy has one astoundingly bad bug - it doesn’t sort filenames - at all. So albums often play in a random order - track 4, then track 10, then track 1 (if that’s the order they happen to be in the filesystem).
To be honest I find [...]

Windows - arrrgghhh
Well today I’ve been testing Zimbra as a replacement for out useless outsourced Exchange provider. I’ll leave Zimbra for another day. Today was “why do people use windows?” day as I was doing a lot of testing with Outlook.
Problems hit so far today:
needed to reboot to install some updates (wouldn’t let [...]

Recruitment agencies
James I share your pain. Fortunately it’s been pretty quiet recently, however I generally get a batch of people phoning every few months.
It was particularly bad after I started my job. “Oh, but I found your CV on $random_job_site”. Which really really annoyed me - I had put my CV up on two sites [...]

Security
As the government announces that 25million records have been lost including social security numbers, bank details etc, I can only shake my head at the reports and comments.
“It was sent by someone at a low-level”. So someone at a low-level can get _hold_ of this information in the first place - that shows an appalling [...]

mi8.com - the conclusion
Well after being without email for just about four full business days, it’s finally been resolved.
Last night about 10pm I received a phone call asking if the new mailbox was okay. Well I had a look via IMAP once they told me the details (it hadn’t been enabled) and it was _very_ unhappy. [...]

mi8.com - day three
So, I woke up hoping that the corruption would have been fixed. But no Instead I got a reply saying that they hadn’t found any corruption (but they obviously havn’t tried IMAP….) They suggested two approaches:
reboot. disable anti-virus. create new profile
they’d recreate the account and merge the data back [...]
