Measurements using a currentcost meter from Southern Electric.


Computers:

  • Desktop:
    • computer (off) = 5W
    • computer (idle) = 115W
    • 22" LCD Iiyama monitor (off) = 2W
    • 22" LCD Iiyama monitor (on) = 40-50W
    • speakers (off) = 9W
    • speakers (on) = 14W
    • laser printer (off) = 0W
    • laser printer (idle) = 10W
    • laser printer (warming) = 540W
  • Server:
    • Server = 70W
    • Netgear 8-port GE switch = 8W
    • Netgear ADSL router = 9W
    • Netgear wi-fi AP = 10W
    • LinkSys VoIP ATA = 3W
  • Brother's:
    • speakers (on or off!) = 3/4W
    • steering wheel = 2/3W
    • monitor (off) = 3W
    • phone USB charger = 1W?
  • Laptop:
    • charger (off) = 4W

Electronics:

  • washing machine (off) = 11W!
    • yes, the only way to drop below 11W is to switch off at the _wall_ socket
    • so over the six years it has cost me £40
  • cooker (idle) = 0W
  • microwave (idle) = 0W
  • door chime (wallwart) = 4W
  • IKEA standard light (which doesn't switch off when _completely_ dimmed) = 100W
  • IKEA standard light#2 = 0W
  • Fridge freezer = 130W when active
  • Kitchen lights = 450W (9x50W halogens)
  • Oven = 2000W

Conclusions:

  • Washing machine is now switched off at wall (-11W)
  • Xbox is now disconnected permanently (-16W)
  • Should put timer on soundbridge/speakers (cannot reach it!) (-10W for 12hours/day)
  • Desktop PC turns off automatically when not used (-110W for 7->18 hours/day)
  • Laptop PC turns off automatically when not used (-?? for 7->24 hours/day)
